Make Glean act in Snowflake — safely

Glean finds the answer in your enterprise knowledge; Upware executes the right query in Snowflake — scoped, masked, and logged — so the insight becomes a governed action, not just a chat response.

The gap

Glean stops at the Snowflake boundary

Glean is excellent at finding and reasoning over information, but turning an answer into a governed action across systems of record needs an execution layer it doesn't provide.

Three ways to close it

From Glean's answer to a governed query

A sales operations analyst asks Glean to pull Q2 pipeline coverage by region for a board prep meeting. Glean reasons across CRM notes, forecasts, and prior reports, then determines the authoritative numbers live in a Snowflake table. Rather than surface raw SQL for a human to run manually, the Glean agent calls an Upware-encapsulated skill that executes a scoped, read-only query against that table — respecting row-level security so the analyst only sees the regions she's entitled to. Upware replays the exact, pre-approved query deterministically, with no LLM improvising SQL at runtime. Every query is written to the audit log with the requesting user, timestamp, and result set hash, satisfying the data governance team before anyone even asks.

The harness

AI to learn. Deterministic to execute.

Upware learns the process once and encodes it as a mostly-deterministic workflow: system interactions replay exactly, and any LLM steps are wrapped in policy, verification, and audit — so execution stays governed and drift-proof.

FAQ

Common questions

Does Upware generate ad-hoc SQL, or does it run pre-approved queries?
Upware learns the query logic once — recording the exact data access pattern an analyst would run — then encapsulates that as a governed skill. At runtime, the skill replays deterministically: the same scoped query, the same parameter bindings, no LLM improvising SQL against your warehouse. You get the flexibility of a natural-language interface through Glean, and the predictability of a controlled, auditable query on the Snowflake side.
How does Upware handle Snowflake's masking policies and row-level security?
Upware executes as a provisioned service account that inherits Snowflake's native access controls — column masking, row-level security, and object-level grants all apply exactly as configured. Upware does not bypass or re-implement those policies; it operates within them. This means your data governance rules stay the single source of truth, and the Glean agent can only ever surface what the requesting user is already entitled to see.
Can Upware also write results back to Snowflake, and how is that controlled?
Yes. Upware can encapsulate write-back actions — for example, posting an approved forecast summary to a results table — as separate, explicitly scoped skills distinct from read-only query skills. Each write skill requires its own RBAC assignment, so only authorized principals can trigger it. Every write is logged to the audit trail with full provenance, giving compliance teams the record they need for regulated data environments.
