Make OpenAI Assistants act in Stripe — safely

OpenAI Assistants reason through refund and billing decisions; Upware carries out each action in Stripe with policy-bounded limits, dual-control thresholds, and a full audit trail.

The gap

OpenAI Assistants stops at the Stripe boundary

OpenAI's assistants call the tools you build them, but governing those tools across enterprise systems — RBAC, policy, audit, legacy reach — is the layer Upware provides.

A Refund That Finishes Itself

A customer contacts your ChatGPT Enterprise assistant about a duplicate charge from three months ago. The assistant confirms the transaction details, checks account history, and decides a refund is warranted — all through reasoning. It then calls the Upware-governed Stripe skill, which verifies the amount falls within the agent's approved refund ceiling, issues the credit, and posts the matching entry to your finance system. No human clicks through Stripe. No spreadsheet to reconcile. The action is logged with the policy rule that authorized it, the agent identity, and a timestamp — available for audit the moment it completes.

The harness

AI to learn. Deterministic to execute.

Upware learns the process once and encodes it as a mostly-deterministic workflow: system interactions replay exactly, and any LLM steps are wrapped in policy, verification, and audit — so execution stays governed and drift-proof.

O
Observe & Learn
Records the real workflow once, across every system it touches.
G
Generate
Builds the API, data flow, and logic automatically — no integration project.
E
Encapsulate
Wraps it as a governed AI skill over secure MCP or API.
R
Run
Executes deterministically — RBAC, audit, and scale built in.
FAQ

Common questions

How does Upware know which Stripe actions an OpenAI Assistant is allowed to take?
Each Stripe skill is wrapped in an RBAC policy that defines exactly what the agent can do — refund limits, which subscription fields it can read, whether it can apply account-level credits. Those rules travel with the skill over MCP, so the assistant can only call what policy permits. Actions above a threshold can require dual control before Upware executes them in Stripe.
Stripe has a solid API — why do we need Upware between our assistant and Stripe?
The Stripe API gets you connectivity; Upware adds the governance layer that enterprise teams actually need. That means per-action policy limits, a complete audit trail that ties every Stripe mutation to a specific agent invocation, and the ability to chain Stripe actions with downstream systems — like posting to your ERP — in a single governed skill. It also means the same pattern works for your systems that have no API at all.
What happens if the OpenAI Assistant tries to issue a refund above an approved limit?
Upware intercepts the call before it reaches Stripe. If the amount exceeds the agent's policy ceiling, the action is blocked and flagged for human review rather than silently failing or executing unchecked. The assistant receives a response indicating approval is required, and the event is recorded in the audit trail with the reason for the hold.
